Who is Jeremiah?
Jeremiah was a prophet from ancient Israel who spoke a promise that has remained true through the ages. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future."

What services do you provide?
We offer residential services, academic support, mentoring, job readiness, leadership development and career and psychological counseling in a nurturing environment of unconditional love and respect.

How do you select your residents?
We have a thorough application screening process that includes recommendations from foster families, social workers, teachers, child advocates or After Care Managers. The process also includes in-depth interviews with the Admission/Outreach Coordinator, Resident Manager and Executive Director.

How long does the application process usually take?
On average the application process takes about 3-4 weeks. This allows time for us to get to know the applicant and for the applicant to get to know us. During this time, we encourage applicants to participate in our life skill workshops and/or other group activities so they can meet the other residents and get a better feel for what it's like to be a part of Jeremiah's Promise.

Do you ever offer emergency placement?
No. We are unable to provide emergency placement; however, we are glad to assist a potential resident in finding temporary placement at a local shelter if there is an immediate need for housing.

Do you have any age requirements?
While we are glad to begin the application process ahead of time, applicants must be at least 18 and not older than 21 years-of-age when they first move in.

What characteristics do you look for when considering an applicant for acceptance?
We are looking for youth who are motivated to really apply themselves to the tasks necessary to prepare them for independence. Successful applicants will also possess a willingness to respect staff and other residents and a willingness to learn to live in harmony with others despite their differences.

What characteristics would likely disqualify an applicant for acceptance?
Because success at Jeremiah's Promise requires a large measure of independence, we are unable to accept youth who have severe emotional or psychological disorders, those who currently struggle with substance dependency or those with a history of violent behavior, significant criminal histories, current gang involvement or severe anger management issues.

What are the backgrounds of most of your residents?
Most of them arrive from foster care, kinship placements or group homes. Most proceed to college. Most of them have never used drugs and do not have a history of alcohol abuse. None of them have a history of violence. None of them have been members of gangs. All of them have expressed a sincere desire to succeed in life and have taken steps to do just that.

How long do you allow your residents to remain at Jeremiah's Promise?
We ask them to stay a minimum of 11/2 yrs. However, they may stay for 2 yrs or a few months longer if they need to.

What part does religion play at Jeremiah's Promise?
The staff and mentors model our Christian values and beliefs in the way we live. We also believe that we answer to a higher power for the quality of the care we provide. Most importantly, we show our love for these kids in a healthy and appropriate way.

Do your residents have to be Christian?
No. Applicants will not be rejected simply because they do not share our religious beliefs. We respect the rights of our residents to disagree with our perspectives and to make their own decisions in regard to what they believe.

Are your residents required to participate in religious activities?
No. Though they may be invited to attend a church-sponsored program or activity, they are never required to do so and their choice to opt out will NOT affect their standing as a resident.

Where do you get most of your funding?
Individual donors, churches, and family and corporate foundations.

When are you going to open a men's house?
Within the next two years or as soon as our funding stream allows us to do so.
